The Deadhorse Volcano- an eroded vent on Chowder Ridge

The “Deadhorse volcano” is a Pleistocene crater exposed in cross section at the south end of Skyline Divide, where it butts agains Chowder Ridge. A field trip guide has just been posted over on the Northwest Geology Field Trips blog. This is a most unusual geologic attraction in the Mount Baker volcanic field, and worth the hike. Of course, you may have to wait until next year…
